Fill materials consist of various sands, small rocks, stone
dust and compounded earth. Detailed below are specific fill materials
which can be used to develop your ideal putting green.
Fill Materials:
- Silica sand: You may have encountered this product
while sandblasting. Silica sand is known for its strength and durability,
which can add to the longevity of your personalized putting green. Silica
sand is available in various sizes and textures such as course, medium,
fine and very fine.
- Green Lightning: This is a specialized form of silica
sand which is basically painted to reflect the various colors of grass
contained in your putting green. Since this material has been smoothed
over, it tends to be more impervious to being compacted. However, this
particular product can still be closely packed into our most dense synthetic
turf.
- Duraflec: This product is marketed under many different
titles and has a variety of designations within multiple industries.
Similar to Green Lightning, this material is sold in a variety of colors.
Since it is also resistant to compacting, it is recommended to avoid
using larger sized grains.
- Rubber grinds: Rubber grinds are very small grain
like shaped materials that are produced from processed rubber by-products.
This is a fairly new product with ongoing testing for various blends
of the material.
